Frequently Asked Questions

This list of questions seem to be asked each time we have the opportunity to bring in new scouting families. As with any list, this list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) never seems to be complete, but this short list should provide some basic answers.  If your question isn't answered by the list below feel free to contact any of the Pack leaders.

Can my son join at any time?  - YES.  The earliest your son can join is as a first grader but boys may join at any time and they do not have to start as a Tiger.

When and Where does Pack 982 Meet? - Pack 982 typically meets twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Thursday at Balls Bluff Elementary School in the Cateferia.

What Time does the Den or Pack Meet? - The Pack meeting typically occurs at 7 pm on the scheduled Thursday night, however, that is subject to change if circumstances arise. The Dens also typically meet at 7 pm on Thursday nights, but this is also subject to change per individual requirements or the Den leader's discretion.

What is a 'Pack'? - A 'Pack' is all of the Dens of a local Cub Scout organization combined.

What is a 'Den'? - A 'Den' is an individual group of Scouts at each grade level. 1st Graders are 'Tigers', 2nd Graders are 'Wolves', 3rd Graders are 'Bears' while 4th and 5th Graders are 'Webelos'. Each 'Den' may have a various number of members. If there are enough kids joining Cub Scouts from a certain grade, there may be multiple Dens created for that Cub Scout level.

What does joining Pack 982 cost? - The fees for joining Pack 982 change from year to year for various reasons. However, the dues for the school year currently are:

New Members and Webelos $100 (Lower to offset the cost of a uniform)

Returning Members $125

Note: $25 Discount for Adult Leadership Support

The cost covers a t-shirt, pack meetings, blue and gold banquet, scout's advancements for the year, Pinewood Derby cars and trophies, and many other events and trips throughout the year.

How many times per year do the Scouts go camping? - Typically twice a year. For the Pack, there is a Pack campout in the Fall. The Tigers, Wolves and Bears have a Spring Camp out while the Webelos have an extra night on the campout.

Where do I buy the clothing and other items for my Scout?

Cub scout uniforms and other clothing can be purchased in several ways. Hand me down T-Shirts and uniforms can be found sometimes at garage sales and or on websites like ebay. For new items, they can be purchased at the Leesburg Hobby Shop in Downtown Leesburg.  A Pack 982 t-shirt is provided to each cub scout as part of the fee for joining.
